Presentation of the party

The Socialdemocrat People's Party (Sosyaldemokrat Halk Partisi - SHP) was founded on 24 May 2002 by Murat Karayalcin and his friends that left the Republicna People's Party (CHP). Murat Karayalcin was mayor of Ankara in the early 1990s. He was deputy prime minister as the leader of Socialdemocrat Populist Party (Sosyaldemokrat Halkci Parti - SHP) in the past. After the merger of the old SHP with theCHP, he continued his political life in CHP. Due to problems with CHP leader Baykal, he resigned and founded this party.
